A question:
Does anyone have any experience of an increase in UI etc situations in matches played privately?
In my experience
1) In a club or a congress or similar, it is very easy to get a tournament director's ruling since there is one in the room at the time.
2) In a match played privately (such as in the Gold Cup etc) a tournament director is not freely available. Whilst I am aware that there is a TD list with telephone numbers, a lot more effort is required to gain a ruling. As a result, unless the use of UI etc is very blatant, some opponents may not bother to seek a ruling, particularly if the incident occurs late at night etc.
Any thoughts?

UI etc in matches played privately

I haven't noticed an increase over time.
If anything, I see less UI abuse in private matches, or at least less where I want a ruling. But I think the reason for this is somewhat different, in private matches, I am generally either playing
i) A team I am going to beat easily, or
ii) A good team
In my experience, it's usually (not always) the weaker teams who abuse the UI laws; I tend to let them get on with it if I'm going to win the match anyway. At a club or a congress or similar, it's more likely to be a pairs or VP teams event, where each board is important, and so there are more rulings.
And also, a good - or at least well experienced - team also tend to take less personal affront at the idea that you might want a ruling and it's all much more amicable. I still remember a match from years ago, when my team was a lot less likely to be beating 'weaker' teams easily, when we asked for a UI ruling by telephone. The opposing team were so upset that we had accused them of 'cheating' by asking for a ruling that eventually they walked out and refused to finish the match.
