For stories that solicit readers' comments, the New York Times has an "Editors Selections" feature that helps readers get the gist of a discussion without having to wade through every comment.

I really like this feature, as a time saver, as a way of reinforcing the values of a site, and as a way of keeping valuable information - the wealth of a site - in view longer.

Will pass this on to the makers of the forum software. Maybe they have this feature already.
