It shows a penalty pass of hearts and usually a couple spades, and suggests passing if we have spade length. We do, and I'm quite happy to pass this.

Seriously, Hamdie, this is not an 'Interesting hand', let alone 'esoteric'. This is a B/I question. And not a very difficult one... i would expect all intermediate players to get this one right.

You are not going to get many (if any) posts suggesting any other interpretation, and if you do, I would expect that they will come from inexperienced players.
