IMPS, W/R 1st seat

A72 T94 J84 A753

P - (P) - 1NT - (P)
?

Invite or game?

does your answer change if you don't have a direct invite available, but have to go through stayman instead?
What do you do if p denies a major in that instance?

3NT
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

Depends on partner's declaring ability... I usually play with some good declarers and if partner has a 5 card suit I'm happy... 3NT for me.

3N: in keeping with my philosophy at imps... just bid game... you will quite often pick up a trick by keeping the opps in the dark about partner's hand. The terrible shape and lack of texture in our 'long' suit is offset by 2 Aces and the 19x in hearts.

depends if partner likes to upgrade 14 counts or not, but normally I'd bid 3NT.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I agree, which I why I'd invite.

When I was starting out, a local expert taught me to always bid game with two aces opposite a strong nt. I have been following that advice since, and it has treated me well. 3NT for me.

If partner opens 1NT and the poll is titled 'game or invite', I think i can safely say the answer is 'game' without even seeing the hand (as long as it's not a prank).
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I'd invite on this hand.

While the aces are nice, 4333 is a pretty big downgrade for me. This hand also has fairly lousy spots and Jxx is not a great holding. Sure, if partner has a five-card suit we might make game, but partner can bid her own hand.

I'd invite due to the general lack of spots.

Always invite.

There are reasons to play without any invitation at all after 1 NT, but as long as you don`t use this style, this is a clear invitation to me.
Kind Regards

Roland

Buratti-Lanzarotti didn't have invitationals after 1NT I was told. Of course! they didn't need them for anything lol.

I don't like my aces, aces ain't that good when you are playing NT. Am I crazy for thinking that a pass at IMPs would be reasonable?.

I would invite.
