I have had this dilema sometimes.
Partner has bid 1 suit, RHO has bid another, and I have a VERY VERY strong hand.
Imagine the bidding (pass)-1♥-(4♣)). I can try 5♣ followed by 6♣, or a direct 6♣, but I don't know wich of them should show a stronger hand (or is asking for less coevers to grand)
This one comes more often and probably is totally different:
(1♣)-X-(pass)-1♥
(pass)-???
Now I can try 2♣ then 3♣, or 3♣ directly (I think playing this as mini splinter is a mistake).
There are times when all you wanna know is how many hearts partner has (Even if yarborough), yet your cuebids only gather negatives from partner and you never find it.

I don't think I've ever made or given much thought to the jump cuebid on the second auction. I do like to play the cuebid is very strong (like 21+) and that the cheapest bid over it by partner is an artificial negative like 0-3, with everything else natural and game forcing. So if partner had a yarb with five hearts he would bid 2♦ then hearts one more time, if he had a little strength with five hearts he could just bid 2♥ over your cuebid.
Maybe it would be a good system to play the cuebid denies four card support for partner, and the jump cuebid promises it. Who knows.

Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I had this exact problem a few days ago in this exact auction, where I held a 21 count... I doubled and then bid 2♣, then over partner's 2♥ I bid 3♣, partner then bid 3♦... What bid should partner make to show a yarbourough here, and what bids show some sign of life?
Yay for the "Ignored Users" feature!
