You're playing matchpoints. Agreements are that 1N is 15-17, their 2♥ bid showed the majors, and that you are playing standard lebensohl. What would your bid be? Would it make a difference if this were a teams match?

And (after a 3♠ intervening bid) justifiably cue-bid hearts in looking for slam. He was very disappointed that his perfect max led us to a below average board. He was of the opinion that 3 of a minor should be some-what slam interest, and I was looking for alternative opinions.

All things considered, 3♦ is the obvious bid on the responder's hand and opener is not out of line trying for slam.

Should 3♦ be either slammish or promise a stop in one of the majors? I can see this, but I've never discussed it with anyone.
I'll try 3N. It looks like the obvious spot at MPs if pard stops both majors.

Pard happened to have a very, very special hand (like 0.1% probability), and even then slam is hopeless if opps find the spade lead. Not that unlikely: LHO can well have ♠KQ, given he has a QJ heart suit.

BTW 3NT denies stopper is very high on the list on conventions I do NOT want to play. I don't know how that ever got popular.
