I like the 3 opening. Bidding in front of partner here is good way to end a partnership, why can't partner have a good hand?

3 is "OK"... I would have opened 2 probably, but this is because of the garbage my partners raise me to game with. I will now pass, because partner could still have a good hand, and if not, I can always put a club in with my spades :).

I don't think the suggestion is to bid 5 or 5. Rather, it is to double to show a hand with very little defense and willingness to bid one more. Pard will pull or pass accordingly.
