It's a LOL whose fault it is that they played in slam off two aces, but as a side note I strong prefer that West bid 4S (NF) over 4D which is a far better contract than 5D.

laughing is fashioned nowadays, but if all the heart's wastage partner has (and maybe denied) was A slam would be ice cold. At least patner still defends it, not that I agree but he has some point.

To Frances: West only needs 2 aces for the easiest 13 tricks ever, IMO 4 is very pessimistic. In fact I wasn't even sure if I would not even bid 6 if partner rejects after 5. I really had 7 in my head (but maybe I was too tired). Or most likelly, I expect a different hand for 4 than you (I tend to blast to game whenever I am not interested in slam).
