Would anyone overcall 2♥?
Trying to learn, I have many questions.

Really interesting, I think I would bid 1S rather than 2H. Not only is it safer but I think we are more likely to have a game in spades rather than hearts. I may regret a later spade lead from partner but that's life.

Hi,

if I overcall, it is 2H.

Given the vulnerability, I pass, but if I dont
want to do this, than 2H it is.

With kind regards

I overcall 1♠. Maybe I can bid 2♥ when it comes back to me.

I think I'm strong enough for an initial 2♥, but it rates to bury our spades.

I bid Spades.
And no matter whether or not I am strong enough to bid hearts later, it would be impossible to bid them natural.
Kind Regards

Roland

1♠ .. I have 5 of them and a hand many players open and two aces. It is the 1 level, who cares if the suit is weak ? We still could have a 4♠ game here or out bid the opps for a part score.

I would overcall 2H, the suit and hand are fine. Would like to have one fewer spades but can't always have everything I want:)

This hand and and the accompanying hands are being posted in all kinds of threads. The post-mortems must have been fiery :)

If the given hand is the north hand that should bid, than 1♠ is obvious.

Am I reading this wrong? west bid 1H and you want Nth to overcall a natural 2H. If this is right, then the 2H bidders are living in Cloud cukoo Land. how can this be natural?

I don't mind a 1S bid. I wouldn't do it because i don't think its a good bid and i have a sneaking suspicion opener will bid 1S now if the auction is uncontested.

The majority of us play 2♥ here as natural. I prefer 1♠ on this hand though.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

2♥ is 110% natural in the good ol' US of A (and more than one or two other places, I'm given to understand). Whether it's right is another matter.

Well blow me down with a feather duster. I am amazed. Why on earth would you do this?

You need to be more disciplined than a standard overcall given the known bad break but there is no other way to bid a hand like:

♠ AKJ10xx
♥ Ax
♦ Kxx
♣ xx

after 1♣ Pass 1♠ ?
