Scoring: IMP

1NT 2♣ 4♥ Pa
4♠  Pa Pa X
All Pass

You lead the ♣K and continue with the ♣Q, partner playing lo-Hi (UDCA). What do you return?

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the ♥3.

Exactly. What would you return then?

♦
For this to make any sense, partner must be in doubt about which red suit, he should play, if he overtakes.

Since we can't have much strength left, partner's dilemma must be whether to set up a deep heart trick or to cash his diamond ace.

I think he has
♠A, ♥K or Q empty, ♦A, ♣A

From his perspective there is just room for ♥Q/K in our hand. But we don't have it. So I'll play a diamond to his ace.

I am not so sure that you can draw too much from partner's failure to overtake.

Since you continued with the ♣Q, not the ♣J, partner may assume that declarer has the ♣J, and partner did not want to establish the ♣J as a winner.

If you wanted to give partner the option of overtaking at trick 2, you should have continued with the ♣J.

That's a good point you're raising, ArtK78. However, I did bid clubs, and although I might have 4, why would I play the Queen if I didn't have the Jack?

i expect partner to have 4 cards, so in 2nd trick he had 2 choices of singlaling or 3rd one overtake, so the exact spotcards would give an usefull hint

To be sure to keep the lead, knowing what to do next....

Definitely should have played the club jack at trick 2.

Sure, if I'm about to reason that partner might not dare to overtake the ♣Q (very far-fetched imo), then it was a clear error to play the ♣Q.

For me the choice of ♣Q/J is suit preference. On that basis, ♣J seems like the proper card.

Thinking partner has ... what?? It can't ever be right to play a heart now from 4 small, unless pard is currently on his 5th+ beer.
If he has ♥A, he would overtake the second club and cash the heart to get a signal. If he has ♥KQ and ♦A he would overtake the first club and play hearts. Etc.
