I think that in old school standard a free bid of 1Nt show the same minimum strenght as 1Nt after a X.

(1S)------X--------(P)--------1Nt
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

Given the usual garbage I tend to bid 3♣ with I feel forced to double now.

The high ODR of our hand might make 3♥ better to avoid big disasters.

In old school standard, a free bid of 3♣ also showed a lot more than a competitive 5-5 ;) .

3H. I don't understand how we can make a non forcing and non forward going bid after partner has bid 1N freely.

We agree. This hand has two really good suits and loads of game potential.

sorry about the confused post, I meant 8-10 and some 11 counts
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.
