Well, in the Commonwealth of Virginia, any offense that is I think 15 over the limit, OR, any speed over 80 mph, is reckless driving, and it can get pricey.
Sounds like I chose the right country for driving - ugh!
80 mph = 128 kmh, that's not very reckless on an empty highway.
BTW all this court business sounds like a LOT of needless paperwork. Here they don't care about your motivation, they just say 21 - 30 km/h too much is this amount of fine + so many penalty points, 31 - 40 is another, etc.
It is paperwork completely run amok. I got my first ticket in Maruland in 1970 something. At the time, I was taking my younger daughter to herseback riding lessons and mentioned the ticket to the mother of one of the other riders:
"What are you going to do?
"Pay it, what else, they got me on radar.
"Oh no. don't do that. I have had several tockets and I have never paid a thing.
"Huh?
"You go to court and you explain it to the judge. Tell him anything. Then they cancel it.
Now she was young and attractive so I figured maybe that was the secret of her success. They didn't cancel my ticket but they did substantially reduce the recorded excess of speed.
