A Vugraph appeal Let's conserve Vugraph data!

weekend, also in the two next weeks. It is impossible for
one person to watch all of them live, so it would be nice to
be able to watch them offline. Also it is a pity to have our
"collective memory", so to speak, vanish.
Hundreds of BBO users are watching the events, if not
thousands -couldn't you mail me the .lin files that
are automatically stored in the Bridge Base Online\Hands
folder in your hard disk? I would prefer complete files
for one segment, obviously.
If you happen to have conserved earlier files,
these are also precious if they come from lesser
events that are not archived in BBO site or Yvan
Calame's site (i.e. unlike the World Championships etc.)
I intend to have these files posted permanently at
my website so that they can be accessed by all.
My email address is: sarant-at-pt-dot-lu
(remove hyphens, replace at with @ and dot with .)
So, let's start to conserve Vugraph data!

We really should make the server log these files automatically.

That would solve all our problems of trying to capture these broadcasts. Is that a promise , Uday? - that BBO will log them and make them available. After all they are very small files. Then Nikos wouldn't have to appeal to the bridge community to capture the broadcasts. Obviously a lot of hard work goes into these broadcasts by the organisers and commentators - it seems a great shame that saving them is left to a few who know the techniques of getting a decent log on their hard disk and unfortunately cannot be at their PC many times when they would like to log a Vugraph.

There is a slight problem with the file for session 5 where board 11 was passed in at both tables, but when you open the LIN file, no data appears in the scoresheet for boards 12-16. You can still look at those hands OK, but the running score doesn't change after board 11. If anyone has the capabilities of fixing this I would be most appreciative.

The cause is here (in the lin file) :
vg|Victorian Open Team Playoff,5 of 6,I,1,16,Pennant,110,Butler,109|
rs|1NW=,2NS-1,3NN+1,3NS+2,2DW+1,3NE+1,4SN+1,4SN+1,3NE=,3NE=,4HW-1,5HW-2,1NW=,2SW+2,5HS+2,4HN+3,5DW=,4HE-1,4HE-1,4HE=,P,PASS,4SN=,4SN=,4CE=,3DE=,4HSx-1,3NN-1,4HS=,3HS+1,1NN-1,2SW+1|
--------------
Solution : replace "PASS" with "P" and you will see all boards.
It is a bug.

More helpers would be great I'm sure - so if you regularly watch the Vugraphs, just make sure you have logging enabled on your profile and you will capture them to your hard disk. The important bit is to stay with the Vugraph until the operator closes the room - if two rooms are broadcast switch to the one which closes second - that way you catch the whole broadcast - even though you might not have watched it from the start - like magic!
Then just send to Nikos - his site is :

Hi Chris
I don't think he will get inundated but it's probably best to visit Nikos' site first. He normally indicates which files are missing for an event.

Well, lin files are tiny so I won't get inundated if I receive
them several times (for small values of 'several').
I did receive three times the 2,3 and 6 rounds of Cavendish
-which also served as an indirect validation since the files
were all the same. I have posted them now.
You can also help by seeing if you have any *earlier*
lin files.
As it was pointed out, I usually flag which files are missing/incomplete
so you can always fill them later. For instance, both Polish
and Italian championships had missing data but now they
have been completed.
Thanks again for the great help!
Nikos
