OK ....I will bet the new President will have more power and Congress less in 4 years...maybe 6 months ...maybe Monday......

I agree. I think Obama actually will encourage different viewpoints but when it comes to making choices he does not strike me as a share the power sort of guy.

Looks like another challenge to Obama's authority.

Quote

President Barack Obama's plan to suspend proceedings against Guantanamo detainees hit a snag when a military judge said it would be unreasonable to delay a hearing for the alleged mastermind of the USS Cole bombing.

Thursday's ruling by the judge, Army Col. James Pohl, creates an unexpected challenge for the new administration as it reviews how America puts suspected terrorists on trial.

Interesting that once again it is the military who is the challenger.

Speaking of a right to a speedy trial.....or didn't Bush suspend that as well? How long was he "on trial" during the last 8 years? If it was that important they might have expedited his case...

Certainly we wouldn't want any unreasonable delay in handling the cases of the prisoners at Guantanamo. Unless we move briskly some cases might even drag on for years. That would be embarrassing.

I trust this was a written statement. No one could say it with a straight face.

To paraphrase another great trial lawyer...

If the evidence exists, you must resist.
If the evidence is weak, your chances are bleak.
If the evidence was fabricated, you must keep them sedated.
If the evidence is gone, you must go along.

You mean the military wants jobs? I'm shocked!

I bet if Obama tried to shut down trials run by apple farmers, and there was an apple farmer judge, that person would make a ruling to extend the trials. I don't think this would be evidence of some abuse of power or conspiracy on the part of farmers. It's just expected human behavior.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

And I thought you were worried about the President having too much power, not too little...:)

You are right, Mike. But I am also concerned about too much power in any hands, including unwarranted influence from the military-industrial complex.

IMO one would have to be naive to believe these examples are the same.
