How do I permanantly remove the Links folder from my Favorites list in internet explorer? I googled it but the explanations weren't making much sense to me.

Nah, there are plenty of decent browsers that run on generic PCs, whether one is using Windows or Linux. Buying a Mac may be a good idea but not in order to delete bookmarks.

I managed to delete IE bookmarks just by right-clicking them and select "delete". May depend on the IE version.

The links folder is notorious for returning time after time when you delete it. It doesn't stay gone long.

Hi,

I dont use IE, but would expect, that it works as Helene describes,
right or left mouse click.

Another option:

Install a plugin, which helps to manage your bookmarks in Windows IE,
e.g. a german side

Problem: your company policy may not allow this, but maybe
as a temp. solution to reorganise your bookmarks this may
be possible.

I tried the regedit fix recommended below by Preston Gralla. Worked on my Windows XP running IE7.

If you hate mucking around in the Registry, simply hide the Links folder. In Internet Explorer, right-click the Links folder, choose Properties, check the Hidden box, and click OK. The folder still exists; you've just made it invisible. To make it visible again, uncheck the Hidden box. You can also hide it by running Windows Explorer and going to C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Name>\Favorites. That's the location of your Favorites folder. You'll find a subfolder underneath it named Links. Right-click it, choose Properties, check the Hidden box, and click OK.

I haven't had to use Windows for several years. I remember getting rid of the Links menu at one time, probably using the registry method. I think it stayed gone in the main IE window, but when I opened multiple windows it would reappear. Really tenacious, IIRC.
