1NT P P 2H*
P P 2NT

* not alerted - probably natural, although overcaller also had 4 spades

My first thought was that 2NT couldn't really be natural.
Still decidedly intermediate - don't take my guesses as authoritative.

It's not impossible for it to be natural (at MPs all white especially), but I would certainly think that minors is useful more often.

Minors. With a hand just short of an invite and some hearts, responder should be laying the wood to 2♥.

Minors, although I know a lot of players out there don't know it.

Again, you need to discuss it, it depends on the meaning of double.

If you play double as take-out, it's playable for 2NT to be natural (particularly at matchpoints), double as take-out, and 2S as short hearts, 4 spades and a longer minor. (With both minors you double then bid 2NT over partner's 2S to show the minors.)

If you play double as penalties, then 2NT is take-out for the minors, and 2S shows a 4-card spade suit (i.e. a take-out double type hand).

That distinction was very helpful. Thank you Frances.

I play double as takeout and 2NT as minors, and do not agree with the distinction you are making. Why can't it go 3♥ 3♠ p back to you? Or supposing partner also happens to have weak spades and uses that as a basis to make a penalty pass when the hand is a double fit for the opponents? I have never been a fan of bids that mean one thing but next round can be proven otherwise.
