We don't tolerate fools here in the Great Lake State. Except in the auto industry. And governance. And...

Not talking to you specifically, Donn. :)

Have no fear...clearly unconstitutional. "Brighton officials said the ordinance would be subjective and the call will be made by police officers" is a great sentence. I guess the City Attorney was out sick when they wrote up that press release. Whether a law's wording would necessitate its being enforced arbitrary and capriciously is one of the most fundamental tests for unconstitutionally vague laws.

Isn't there a yearly bridge tournament in Brighton, quite a big one? Will that still be allowed, the article mentions that the police will be subjective.

The law itself is annoying, so can we file charges against the city council for passing it?

This certainly sounds reasonable, but filing charges would no doubt annoy the council so we then would have another culprit. Pointing out this fact would certainly annoy the person filing charges. Within a short period of time it seems that everyone in the town could be subject to a $500 fine. Actually it is a very imaginative approach to raising revenue. Maybe they need a new fire truck.

And the law enforcement officers who have to file all the paperwork will be REALLY annoyed, so everyone involved will face even more fines.

We could fund the bailout with all the fees charged for being annoying. :D

I would have started fearing greatly if it was Brighton, Sussex!

But then again I won't be in the UK during summer to play in Brighton...
