Scoring: IMP

P - (P) - 1* - (1)
1NT - (2)** - P/Dbl - (2)
P - (P) - ?

*5+ unless 4=4=4=1 precisely
**Good Raise in (roughly 9-11 by PH)

Your answer now may depend on whether you passed or doubled (or did something else) at your second turn, so feel free to answer in both cases.

How now?

Does 1NT promise a stopper? In that case I would try 2NT.

I doubled 2, showing a takeout double of 2. Having done that, I pass.

Having passed over 2, I'd have another go, with 3, because double sounds like a penalty double.

Did my double over 2D show a shapely opener asking a bid? Partner says none of that. What extra do I have? NOTHING. Keep whipping a dead horse? Nope.

Pass first, and then do something now, makes no sense.

Double first makes sense.

Having doubled, I pass.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."
