Your normal responding structure is that 2D is a negative, other bids show positive values

If you played such a ssytem how would you deal with intervention

ie
2C (X) implying clubs ?

How would/do you as responder utilise your new options

2D

If you normally playing a different responding struction to simple 2D negative etc
how would you cope with the double of 2C?

The most important thing is to have an agreement, what agreement you have is a little less important.

I'd suggest: X (of a bid) or XX (of a X) is a super negative bid (like 0-3). Pass is a moderate negative (4-7) and starts a game force. Bids are normal 8+ positive.

If you pass you probably also want to discuss what X or XX is from partner (t/o, penalty, or optional).

Hi,

One possible way would be to play the same agreement, as after a
lead directing X.

#1 XX showes a good 4 card suit, suggesting to play
#2 Pass 3 small ones
#3 other bids keep their meaning

After specifically a double of 2♣, I would have assumed that 2♦ and 2♥ are both now natural positives, XX negative, and pass general positive. I could also see keeping 2♦ as all-purpose positive, pass as negative, 2♥ as positive, and XX as an offer to play 2♣ (or to punish whatever the X shows if not clubs).

It does not matter very much what agreements you have because there are a few ways of dealing with the Dbl (showing clubs) but make agreements with partner, and also include in them what opener's next actions show opposite the agreed actions by responder, after they have doubled.

While you are at it, also agree what you each will do after they overcall in various ways.

As everyone else has said, the main thing is to have an agreement, it's not clear that some agreements are theoretically better than others.

A few things to bear in mind when making your agreements:

- Some things will depend on how strong your 2C opening. If you play it as really serious (genuine game force), your auctions are easier in competition. If you might have an Acol-2 type hand you have to be a bit more cautious.

- Don't try and play in 2NT with 23-24 opposite nothing, just assume you are game forced.

- Don't play Kokish in competition

- Play all "cue bids" and redoubles as natural (unless you have already rejected the chance to bid the suit or to defend the suit doubled). e.g. 2C 2D P 2H 3H just shows a good hand with hearts.

- Double by opener is useful to show the strong balanced hand type. Pass (if forcing) is usually then a 3-suited type hand.

- Responder's positives should be a little lighter than usual. If you have a decent suit, bid it, before things get out of hand.

I would rather think that pass is negative, and XX penalty oriented... 2♦ and 2♥ natural positives obviously.
