Do you rebid 2C, 2NT, 3C or something entirely different?
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

2♣, if partner passes it can as easily be good as bad, and if he doesn't pass we will have an easy third bid. 3♣ is clearly an overbid, and 2NT is a misbid that I see no reason to make in this case.

3♣ - Yes, an overbid, but 2♣ is too likely to pass out.

I presume the 3♣ bidders are bidding a 3NT if partner bids 3♠ (wtp?).

I'm tempted by 2NT, but I guess I have the same problem after 3♠ and I haven't shown my clubs.

2♣ looks normal to me.

I would upgrade an 18 count to a game force only with some sort of spade fit or extra distribution.

Agree with 2C, 2N is a misbid that people seem to make all the time with little reason imo.

More like 17-18. I won't say 16 is impossible (or 19!) but it's not the norm.

2♣. I would even go so far as to say 3♣ is a clear error.

Once upon a time this would have been good enough for 3♣ but a 1/1 doesn't really promise 5 or 6 HCP any more (see any number of comments in these forums).

Next paragraph was edited to clarify what I meant...

Also, partner is quite likely to have a bad shape for us. If he has 4-2 in the majors and a hand poor enough that we will not reach game after 2♣, he would have bid 1NT (F1) not 1♠. So EITHER we will reach game anyway, OR he's got BOTH a minimum and at least one of 5+ spades or a stiff heart. The spade blockage and lack of heart intermediates will work against us establishing either major at NT.

3C.

I dont mind a heavy 2C from time to time but here we have 6 controls and KQT9 of clubs that is more than enough to compensate for the stiff S ace and so-so hearts.

I bid 2C when I had this at the table. There was some discussion about this hand at the juniorBBO tournament.

I agree with 2♣. 3♣ looks funny, and 2N is not palatable.

3C for me. My 1S bid still shows something. As for the argument that 1S does not have to show many values, I could maybe accept that over 1C, (to shut out the other M), but not over 1H here.

Maybe In a junior tournament this is closer to a 2 Club opening then to a 2 Club response.

I had rebid 2 Club too.

I would make the "misbid" of 2NT because I think the chance of getting to a bad spade or notrump contract after this is less than the chance of missing a good game or notrump partial after 2♣.

I do think 2♣ is a better bid than 3♣.

3♣ for me. There's no good reason why P should be scraping up a 1 ♠ response over 1♥ on a bad 4HCP or something. I'm more worried about getting p/o in 2♣ with a game on than I am about getting too high on a misfit. :D
