I will be installing a new version of our server program at about 1AM EST.

BBO will be unavailable for about 5-15 minutes while I install the new software.

If the new sofware flakes out, there will be another brief outage while I roll back to the stable version.

Changes:
This server will not recognize logins with weird characters in the username.
Usernames like *uday u*d*a*y uday=xyz etc will not be permitted.

If you use such a username, you will need to create a new username for yourself.
I will copy your friends list from your old name to your new name if you drop me a line at uday at you-know-where.

No new features in this release of the server, transparent back-end changes only.

Maybe i won't be quite as restrictive. We'll see.

Uday....Seems like people will have to have meaningful log-in names now (like slothy for example ) instead of preceding it with asterices etc to push thmseleves up the name-list

I have noticed that a few players with @ @ the end of their user name had to remove it, saying it wasn't allowed anymore.....but in the same instance, i saw someone else with that same ending logging in... and saw a lot of names with asterix, or other "strange" characters.... so what is it? Allowed, or not allowed?

And you've gone back to allowing caps i see well, you're the boss Uday!

Lost caps was a bug: I fixed it, and it is as it was. Originally, I had decided to prevent all sorts of funny characters but i relented (temporarily!) on _ and * .

I did see an '@' sneak in somehow, but i think we got rid of that .

My plan is to phase out all these weird names over time.
