2/1 Bidding Question Looking for a better auction

Scoring: MP

Partner and I were playing 2/1, 1NT forcing, 4SF to game and weak jump shifts not in competition. Against silent opponents, partner opened 1♦, I bid 1♥, partner responded 1♠ and I was stuck. 2♣ would have been game forcing, so I bid 1NT. Partner responded 3NT and I passed. This was a terrible contract.

Suggestions for a better auction please. Thanks.

Your bidding was fine, at least I would have done the same.
Maybe this was just unlucky, what was your partners hand?

I wouldn't have bid this way. 1NT is not a great bid. I would have bid 2D. Partner has shown 5D and 4S after all.

Why do you say he has shown 5 Diamonds?
Why cant he have 4?
4-1-4-4 with 18-19 HCP?
He might not bid 2NT his second time, instead looking for the Spade fit.

Hi,

I think the bids you made were fine, maybe
your partner could have bid different, maybe
not.

Sometimes good bidding will lead too bad contracts.

1H and 1NT are normal.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Besides this, he may have a mere 4333 or 4243 and belongs to the millions out there who bid their 4 card spade suit instead of simply rebidding NT with a 4 card major. I know this concept is outdate in the forums, but WE are te minority, not they.

But even if Pd promised 5 Diamonds and 4 Spades I would bid 1 NT.
Pds 3 NT rebids promised something around 19 HCps, semibalanced.
If he has Akxx, Qx, AKQxx,xx we still have more then one chance despite the waste Heart value. Of course he may have many hands where 3 NT has no play, but what does that proofe?

And if we bid 2 Diamond now, what will be better? He will still insist in game.
Kind Regards

Roland

What was pard's hand? it sounds the opponents ran the heart suit on you and pard had a 4=0=5=4 or a 4=1=5=3. In either case, pard has the option of 'patterning out' on the way to 3N. Opposite something like: AKxx void AKxxx Qxxx, seven clubs has a play, yet 3N could go down.

You bid perfectly, it sounds like partner was hasty to make his bid.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.
