At MP, you hold ♠Q7 ♥KQ96 ♦K9874 ♣62. P-P-1♦ to you. What do you think about a 1♥ overcall?

Warm and fuzzy.

Actually, the pattern is classic, and I would not hesitate in most partnerships at MP, unless red. If sounder style, I'd want the spade to be K, or diamond J also, or some other just-a-tad.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

Yea, 1H. Upside to get H-lead, scare off 3NT. Down side small as I'm at the 1-level.

Not much.

1. Our suit is nothing to write home about.

2. I don't think that I automatically want a heart lead against 3N, unless pard can find the lead on his own.

3. I'm not worried about getting hammered here (wait, that was last night) but I don't relish playing a 4-3 with a trump hitting the table.

Give me the heart J or another King and I'll overcall.

I've been overcalling a lot on this kind of hand lately. My experience has been that the results are generally good at NV and lousy at V. So I'll go with "bid 1♥ at NV only."
