I played in a few $5 Best Hand MBTs, and they seem to be operating completely with $BB. This seems a little strange to me for a "Money Bridge Tournament", and I greatly prefer having $MB to $BB.

Is it possible to change it so that the tournaments operate with $MB?

Ditto, same problem, is this an error or intentional? Obviously MB$ are more valuable and I started with 0 BB$ but now have some, I think that if I buy in for MB$ I should win MB$! :)

It is intentional, but it is not that big a deal - if you send an e-mail to accounting@bridgebase.com they can convert some/all of your BB$ to MB$.

A lesson we learned the hard way is that a LOT of our members find it very confusing that we have 2 types of currency. Regardless of how clear we tried to make the instructions and regardless of how in-your-face we made various warnings, significant numbers of people would buy the the wrong kind of $ that were required for the areas of BBO that they wanted to access.

For about 2 years, until December 2007, MBT entry fees and prizes were denominated in MB$. Then we switched to BB$ and attendence went up by almost 1000% virtually overnight (seriously). So it seems reasonable to conclude that, for most of our members at least, being able to use BB$ for MBTs has been a good thing.

Probably this is at least partly a function of the large number of people who also use BB$ for things like ACBL tourney entry fees and the much smaller number of people who play in the "Play Bridge For Money" area (the only remaining part of our site where MB$ are in use). The masses don't seem to want to have to deal with 2 types of currency for 2 types of tournaments (I can't say I blame them).

Sorry that it makes life a little harder for those of you who are not among these masses.

Awesome. This was my primary concern.

Agreed, no biggie at all if this is the case.

I'm going to amend what FG said.

Our official policy is that MB$ are "real" $ and can be withdrawn etc. BB$ are not "real" and can't be withdrawn.

On occasion, we've made exceptions on a case by case basis. Typically this has been done for MB$ players who happen to have some bb$ lying around.

The dual-currency thing has been a PITA. One of these days maybe we'll have an 'aha' moment but until then, our current policy will have to stand.

So on the $5 tourneys, what the people are winning is not convertable to cash? They're basically just coupons to buy stuff from your site?

Is everybody who plays in these tourneys aware of this?

In the 4.75 years we've had and used BB$ on BBO, they've never been refundable, never been convertible into cash, gold, diamonds or even frequent flier miles.

Nothing has changed.
