Sitting East this came up. Partner is a regular poster, and after an intervention we play a new suit as forcing.

1. Do agree with my double after the 1♠ intervention?
2. Regardless of answer to 1, what should partner bid after 3♠?
3. Given the opps bidding can you construct a reasonable auction to 4♥

1. Yes, unless 3♥ is a wjs, in which case it may be a reasonable choice at favorable.

2. 4♦.

3. Probably opener would raise a wjs 3♥ after spades had been raised. But if opener bids 4♦ after your double, you have an easy 4♥.

But is 4♥ such a great contract?

#1 sure, thats the way you have to bid, if you cant bid 2H direct
maybe oldfashioned

#2 Pass, 4C or 4D are all reasobale bids, for me it is either pass
(my top preference) or 4C, 5D is ..., see #3.
As it is, if you happen to play that the neg. X just promises 4
hearts,and that it says nothing about diamonds, 4D is not really
an option.

#3 Not really. You should maybe open 1D instead of 1C, since
the hand is to weak for an reverse, but this would not have
helped much, if the opponents compete upto 3S as it happend
in the actual deal

#4 dont ask me, what I think about 5H ...

1. No. If south raises over my pass, partner will be short in spades and can make a takeout double if we should be competing.

2. Pass. I'd be tempted to bid some number of diamonds, but the modern tendency is that negative doubles of 1♠ only promise hearts, so even if we have a profitable sacrifice in diamonds we aren't likely to find it.

3. Doesn't really matter, does it? 4♥ should be down a few and the opponents seem to be cold for 11 tricks in spades. I think you should just get out of the way.

1. Double is OK. It shows a hand that would have responded 1♥, and is not suitable for a disturbed 2♥. It says nothing about diamonds or clubs

Certainly not 5♦; not 4♦ either, which might force our side to the five level on a misfit. 4♣ is a possibility, though partner will probably assume you have more defence than this.

It seems a bit feeble, but I might pass, planning to bid 4NT if LHO bids 4♠.

3. No, but I'm content to lose 200 for 3♠+2.
