In another thread, the green club symbol was mistaken for the black spade symbol. To make the club more distinctive, Geraldo changed the code for the club symbol so that it appears as LIME (thanks!!). First the good news, there is no mistaking the lime club for the black spade symbol. Howver Freee then wrote in that he liked the GREEN CLUB better than LIME CLUB symbol. I have to admit the LIME is too faint on this light blue background to be attractive. Which caused me to consider other possible colors (with four colors, tradition is for clubs to be green).

Here is the club symbol (with other symbols in between) to compare with the spade symbol

Lime
Purple
Gray
Aqua
Teal

Black

green or grey. The lime color is AWFULL imo, too flashy. Green is more neutral, and the blue will be recognized...

Perhaps the and the symbols should be changed, because they are smaller than the and the

Ben, you beat me to the idea of this poll, so I added more options on the Green line.
Also took the liberty to modify your post which show the options.
Agree with Free, Lime is too light.
I'm inclined for middle or middle dark

Will not let me change my vote ... but I now like Middle green best, followed by Middle light.

I, for one, will not use these little tiny sysmbols. Why not go for something that 90% of bridgeplayers will use, since their eyesight is probably not that good. I have a 20/20 eyesight and I almost have to use a magnifier to see the symbols. Try to put these sysmbols in.

I am by no means a computer expert but I don't think this going to be too hard.

Go with the red and black, but make the symbols more distinctive as suggested. Personally I dislike the green and orange. Next we will be wanting to colour-code the honours! (OK, so that was a little tongue in cheek.)

Well actually, you can also use the new colors for the suits. Club is grey, Diamond is orange, Heart is red and Spade is black. This way you use official and new colors, and the symbols won't be mixed up either...

Anyway, I like the new symbols at this moment, so for me it's just fine.

I think the best option would be to allow customization of how the cards look. Scan symbols off a set of cards for the visually impaired (The large characters with clearly named cards and large suit symbols). This would allow anyone with poor eyesight who needs it to use cards that are significantly easier to read. The major problem with this is that the hand would need to appear more spread out, but I'm sure something could be done.

As for suit symbols for the rest of us, I like Green, Orange, Red, Blue although I think the blue should be closer to black for the spade. The orange should perhaps be slightly darker but still clearly orange and not red.

The club should remain a reasonably dark green. But this is just my opinion, comments are welcome.

Welcome to the BridgeBase Forum.

My comment is that I like the four different colors, as to my poor eyes, the club looks a lot like the spade symbol.
