I didn't make any comment about the opening until we were going through the hands after the match, there was no love lost at the table. My partner thought we should have been in a NT contract but I didnt see how to get there unless he opened 1♠

Did he suggest when you should have bid no trumps?

Yes. he suggested I could bid 4♦ rather than 4♣ then I can't remember what , somehow I got to bid 4nt rkc. I think we were muddled (ns)

Hi,

2C and 3C are fine.

Your partner should raise 3C to 4C, he knows
you have 6-3 fit, and the spade suit will be helpful
in a club contract as well.

After 3S you dont have a lot of choices, and 4C is
clearly the best.
Now your partner should bid 4D, as a cue + agreeing
the fit, but you need to have the agreement that a new
suit at the 4 level is a cue, not everyone plays it that way.
The situation now showes also why it would have been
better to show the support at once.

I would not have bid on over 5C, but I am a chicken in
the slam area, ... 2 missing Aces are not likely but still
possible.
