4.

Many would play 3 as a fit jump, but I don't believe 4 should be fitted. I also had 2 available, but why would I monkey around when what I really want to bid is 4?

I hear all the 4H bidders.

But I think you need to be slightly careful. The last time I bid 4H in this auction I had approximately this hand with the HK instead of one of the small ones. Partner raised to 6, and it made.

Partner will expect something a bit better for a 4H bid. It's not clear your side is the pre-empting side when the auction has started this way.

I'm afraid partner will get a different message with 4 hearts - he might think I'm splintering! Anyway, I'm making a negative double followed by 4 hearts.

Agree with this. 4H is a bludgeon bid.

Agree with this. 2H is a bludgeon bid.

Hi,

I am currently meditating about the meaning of this
remark, sry I am not a native speaker, I needed to
ask www.leo.org for help translating "bludgeon", but
a word by word translation did not help either.

Given the amount of 4H bidders, 2H is certainly a
"value" bid, but because of the poor suit quaity, 4H
can get expensive, and they will kill me, if they have a
chance, ... and I did not say I would sell out at a low
level.

With kind regards
Marlowe

If you sell out below 4, you are selling out at a low level. If not then why not bid 4 right away?

You really can't bid anything but 4H on this hand. If partner might think that this is a splinter then you have some talking to do.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I have the agreement that if the opponents have bid at least one suit, you can't splinter in any suit they haven't bid. It seems to work well.
