In a compact knockout team game, I picked up the flollowing hand....

Scoring: IMP

Bidding..... to me in 4th seat...

P - P - 2 - ?

Ok, 6S is cold on a heart lead (as is 6NT), and either will make on a black suit lead if the vulnerable 2H bidder happens to hold both the diamond ACE and hte heart king (a vulnerable stopper squeeze, run the black suit, if RHO comes to 1H, cash the heart ACE and Queen, if he keeps two hearts, exit the diamond). The question is how should this hand be bid.

Are you sure your partner takes 4NT as ace asking? If you bid an immediate 6 do you expect partner to bid 7 with the diamond ACE? Do you expect both 4NT and an immediate 6 to get you to grand when it is on (and do you want to be in grand if partner just has the diamond ACE given the bidding so far).

I heard about this hand! A friend of mine held it, so I assume he was playing your team.

Anyway I said I'd double, and then pray partner bids diamonds, so I can ask for keycards/trump quality of some sort.

I suspect that I am going to bid a prosaic 6, expecting LHO to have the King of Hearts and the Ace of Diamonds.

I really dislike double, since partner is almost sure to bid 2NT rather than show me a suit at which point in time I'll be forced to show rather than ask.

I'll bid 6, quick claim at trick 3 for -1 after A and switch.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Some people play cuebid (3) could be a solid major suit too (not just a solid minor). I guess here you can safely double since you're so strong that partner can't reasonably sit for your double even with lots of hearts.

Between 2, 3, 4, and X...3 and X...4 (presumably over partner 2N lebensohl), at least one of these should be forcing. My vote is for X...3 and see if partner can't cue something for you.

x...no problem yet.
