Yes, I know it is April 1st, but the following three hands are not April Fool jokes.
All are Imps. This one is all vul.

Last night had some of the wildest hands I have ever seen in the course of one evening:
Playing a 5 card M system, your pd opens 1S

next hand bids 2D. Your bid? What is your strategy here?

If you bid any number of S up to 4S your lho bids 5D. Pd doubles and this comes back to you. Your next bid?

I would have bid 5S directly, and would bid 5S over 5D doubled (prepared of course to apologize).

4 would be my initial bid. The only thing I have is trumps, so 5 is too optimistic. Perhaps partner sees it as Josephine or something and bids 7...

After partner's Double I think I'll pass, don't want to go too much down.

I thought 5 in a sequence like that would be a slam invitation (based on trump quality).

I'm VERY worried that they are going to be able to make 6D.

I can see good arguments for 3S, 3N, 4S, or 5S

As always, I'm going to answer in the form of a probability density function

3S = 15% of the time
3N = 30% of the time
4S = 25% of the time
5S = 30% of the time

I bid 3, strong and forcing... and over 5 if I am in direct seat, i make a forcing pass.. .and pull the double. I am prepared to apologize to partner if this is way too high, but then again, I am with the people who are afraid they can make 6. With the STRONG 3 it turns their bids into preempts even at vul versus vul, and thy may just let you play 5 unmolested and without thinking of bidding 6.

Offbeat, I know, but how about pass? Now when you bid 5S, they are pretty sure to double rather than bid on to six. In theory this gives them more room to describe their hands, but are they really going to believe that they hold a combined total of one spade?

A pass will not convince them that they both are extremely short in spades, and must have a bid fit somewhere. Maybe not 's but certainly if you have a minimum 12 card fit, they surely will have a huge fit somewhere.

IF you pass I can promise you the next hand will make a cue-bid, a splinter, something. Even a raise here shows some stregnth. There is two ideas, since you will not let them play anything below the six level, bid to 5 immediately, or if you believe you can bid to the level of you trump fit, maybe even higher :-)

The second is try to make their normal sounding bids as weak. So if you SHOW a good hand, all raises by the overcallers partner will be weak. So a couple of options. 3NT... but that might go down too many, so I eliminated. 4NT "Blackwood", now you can "signoff" when your partner is once keycard short (this one might backfire, because if they bid 5 over this, that really can't be weak, since you were going to 5 anyway.... so it might let the cat out of the bag... Which explains my psyche.. .if I thought a new suit bid would be useful instead of 3Diamond, I might try that... but 3 has a dramatic effect on the meaning of their bids.

Spoiler
Hi all!
My bid is 4NT: RKCB. There are 2 reasons:
1. We can have slam - I have 5 tricks with 2hcp. 2. If opps overbid us, I like to know how many A we can take, next round can be too late.

Well my pd decided to walk the dog. He bid 2S. This is what followed:

1S (2D) 2S! (5D)
X (P) 5S all pass

When I ruffed the D lead and played a S to dummy - (drawing trumps, lol), rho played a udca attitude 4 of C from A94. This sets up a ruffing finesse for you to pitch a H loser from dummy. Making 5.

I am stuck between 5 or 6 , as an overbidder I will bid 6.

Seems like my auction would have worked out nicely on this hand (cue-bid 3, then make forcing pass over 5. After forcing pass, partner with a diamond void will not double 5. but will bid 5. And with AK and my "expression" of doubt to defend or bid 5, he will double 6 and lead 's.

Since they they can make 5, and 5 is down one at most and with poor defense, might make, this should work out well for us.
