same thing happened to me a few times since 3.6.7 version...this is what happens:
All is fine when in lobby, but once you sit at a table, you can't see lobby, you cannot use chat box, and everything freezes, even though you can hear messages being sent to you etc.... you can't log out and come back, the problem still persists; slothy (masterchef, master compi nerd lol) told me to reboot, et voila! It worked again... but its really a hassle to have to do that each time; has happened 3 times so far...
Hoping it can be fixed
You know its time to diet, when you nod one chin and 2 others second the motion :)

Windows has a Task Manager application that allows you to blow away a program that you are having trouble with. You do not have to reboot, which as you noted is a pain.
It may have different names under different versions of Windows, but I think every version has this program (under Windows 2000 Pro it also shows you your computer's resource usage - how much CPU is being used, how much memory).
Under Windows 2000 Pro, if you right-click on a blank area of the Task Bar (or whatever Windows calls that area where you can see minimized windows), you get a menu. "Task Manager..." is one of the options.
