Scoring: IMP

1♦ 1♥ 3♦ 4♥
5♦ ?

You're playing a swiss, opponents are not experts if that matters to you. You also play intermediate jump overcalls so your 1♥ could be on a weak 2.

First of all, do you X or pass? 2ndly, how do you expect partner to react to each of these bids. How often would you expect partner to pull a X? How often would you expect him to bid 5♥ if you pass?

Pass seems obvious. I have no reason to think either that we were making 4♥ or that 5♦ is going down.

If I double, I expect him to pass almost all of the time; if I pass, I expect him to pass most of the time, but to bid 5♥ with a very offensive hand. If he does bid 5♥, he may well be right.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

I double and partner sits most of the time (having not bid 4D). Yes, it may make but I've seen too many +100/150 instead of +300/500 to let this one slide. I'm willing to concede to a making contract and expect to come out ahead even in the short run.

Double , for any time they make I will have enough compensation with stopping pd from bidding 5 Heart and from the + 300 and + 500 which may happen.
Kind Regards
