You're defending a doubled trump contract.

you hold KQJx of trump.

on your opening lead you tapped declarer, who you anticipate has at most 5 trump and at the same time established the suit led, AND kept an entry to p's hand.

declarer errs slightly by putting down the ace of trump and another . you know you can now pull ALL outstanding trump and let p run his winners.

what order do you play your trump honors to tell partner that they should keep their winners and don't need to hold their minor honor guard in another side suit? (partner followed in trump on the first trump trick, but you anticipate will have a discard on the second).

K(JQ). When I play the K, partner will know I have solid trumps, because I didn't double on Kx (depending on context, I guess).

I think the second two cards should be suit preference though.

Both Gnome and I think the normal order is J-K-Q. While there is no certain way to convey this message, it makes it much less likely partner will make a fatal first discard. Partner may be able to infer that you're drawing trumps from the double anyways.

king-jack-queen. When partner sees you have the jack he will know you have the queen.

Jack-queen-king can also work when it is clear that declarer does not have the king.

jack-king-queen feels natural but seems really bad as you would play them in this order with KJx.

precisely my thinking: JK is the WORST possible sequence because it is the only way you can play KJx if drawing trump.

JQ should not mislead partner, since you probably wouldn't be defending a doubled contract with QJx and would have won the 10 with QJ10x, but why make partner think any harder than necessary? After all, he only has so many good thoughts available, and he may need them more the next hand. K then J is the clearest message: either you hold the Q, or you are utterly insane, in which case nothing matters :P

K-J-Q seems like it gets the message across to partner giving him the less headache.

I would think KJQ in that order as well...

at the table I played JKQ. It dawned on me right after that this was the wrong order. Another question i have on this is, does it matter whether it is the first or second discard that is critical for p? obviously, if you can afford one bad discard, KJQ is unambiguous... but what if it is the first one that is the difference between setting and making?
