Scoring: MP

Play in 6♠.

1. Opening lead - ♦4

2. Opening lead - ♥6

Trumps are 2-1

Extra Credit: Is the hand cold?

More Extra Credit: How does replacing the ♣7 with the 4 change things?

1, against the 4♦ lead I win the Q♦ and A♦ and ruff diamond with 8, ruff ♥ high, ♠ to the Q, ruff ♥ high, ♠ to the J, A♥ (pitch ♣). Now I'm left with 62 - - T87 opposite 9 - - AQ65 and am leading a club and covering/ducking whatever east plays. Now west is forced to give me a club lead which sets up 2 tricks or a ruff/slough or decline the first round which also gives me 2 tricks. So this line is cold assuming no one ruffs in early. Seems very unlikely to get an early heart ruff (8-2!) so I need to dodge the 6-2 diamond break unless west has the 2 or east has the 2 but no T♠. All in all seems like a good line.

2, against 6♥ I try the Q♥ (pitching a ♣ if works) and ruff if not. Now if I ruffed I cross in spades and ruff a heart cross in spades and cash A♥ pitching club. Now I again play on the clubs and west will be forced to concede the diamond finesse, the club finesse, or the ruff/slough. If he returns ♦ I get 2 more diamonds and cross by ruff and then play on clubs again hoping W didn't have KJ.

Neither line seems cold to me, but both seem pretty good.

I don't get why Mbodell is playing with fire on the first one. Win the diamond, spade to Queen, ruff a heart with the spade Ace, spade to Jack, Ace of hearts, ruff a heart, diamond Ace, ruff a diamond leaves you in the same end position without any overruff problems.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

Because I was too tired to see that you could end up on the board if you pull trump first. :)
