1C if playing Standard American.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Nothing could be more obvious than opening 1. So what is the point of this question?

I am 100% certain that Steve Robinson opens 1. Surely he is not the only one.

The question was assuming standard American :)

My thoughts are....

Lets see..I have a nice 6 carder in and a wretched 5 carder in and we may get outbid in here.

Which suit do I want PD to lead ? Which suit is worth competing to a higher level in ?

As much as I respect Steve's game, if he wants to open 1 here, I'll leave it to him and the other few %.

True, I know someone in Ann Arbor who likes to open 1H with hands like this.

Of the question was "what do you open with".... not what does Steve Robinson open with it (or what is standard, or what should the opening bid be). I actually play 2 opening bids shows hearts + clubs and minimumish opening bid. Even playing that, I would open this 1.

If you look at his responses to its your call or WBL solvers you'll see that he makes weird calls in a variety of other situations too

For instance I posted a while back WWYD with the above hand after 1-(p)-1-(2). This got a unanimous or nearly so 3 here, but he gave 3 (his bid) and 4 the top two scores, arguing that you must force game with this hand.

Forcing to game isnt weird. A NF 3C is not an alternative for me.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."
