Apparently the BBO program is going into a bad state
for some people when the click the lobby/tables/tourney
buttons when they are at a table. As far as we can tell
this is happening to only a small % of members, but of
course we would like to fix it.

Sorry about this - obviously we would not have released
3.6.5 to the general membership if we knew that this
problem existed. Our plan is to try to fix this bug (and
whatever other bugs we learn about) and do another
release within the next week.

Unfortunately I have not been able to replicate this bug
yet and this makes it hard to fix. The descriptions of the
problem that I have seen so far have been somewhat
vague - I need more information before I can figure out
what is going on.

If you see this happen can you please let me know
(either by forums post or by e-mailing fred@bridgebsae.com):

1. Where was the table you were at (main bridge club, in
a private club, a team match, tournament...)?

2. Were you a player or a kibitzer?

3. What state transition did you attempt just before the
problem appeared (there are 12 state transitions: chat->
lobby, chat->tables, chat->tourneys, lobby->chat....)?

4. What is your screen resolution?

5. What version of Windows are you running?

6. Do you run BBO in wide mode?

7. Do you use the "big deal option"?

8. Does it ever work properly for you or does the
bug always happen?

9. Was a lobby and/or table filter enabled when
the problem occurred?

Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to experiment
and report the results to me!

Hmmmmm, i am not sure you mean what is happening to me and i am not technical but i will try to explain my problem, from which i thought in the test version (it only happened than 2 times) that it was a problem with my computer...

It happens when i am td and in the position to kibitz a table at the tournament. At the moment the hand is finished and the sheet falls from the played hand i am blocked if i want to do something else (f.e. ask for movie or chat to a specificic player at the same time).

It happened 6 times to me in 2 days. I have to restart the computer and the problem is gone. Now i became experienced in avoiding the problem - lol - and i try not to be at the table if that moment is coming up or i dont do anything else at that point.

Still, i am not sure that this is what you mean... i run win98, my screen is wide.

Hope i could be of any use.

Further i want to say i love the site like this. Great job!!!!

Here's something that might help the matter Fred. I did some hunting around on my PC and here's the information I uncovered.

I am able to duplicate the error when sitting at a table in the main bridge club, with intermittent problems at a private club and tourney play. I was both a player and kib'er when I went to go from the chat window to the lobby button, where the hesistation started. What it would do is literally pause, but I was able to click the chat box window open, but with no overall system response. The way to correct it was to either back out of a table to the main bridge club view OR to exit the program and go onto 3.6.0 that I have in reserve. In my case it strictly occurred
at a "live" table".

The PC I am working on runs Win98SE with 800 X 600 resolution, large view of cards (without big deal enabled), filtered to only show friends, enemies, and champs. This bug is repeatable under 16 bit color, HOWEVER, under 24 bit color, I am unable to duplicate the pause, the error, nothing! Stumbled onto the solution just by checking my display properties in Control Panel, cranked up the color, verified that I had full acceleration for graphics, voila, it's working right again.

Hope this helps matter -

D.

Thanks Dwayne. Excellent research :)

I think I have created a version in which the problem
is fixed regardless of your color settings.

Anyone who has experienced this bug and wants to test
out the new version can e-mail me: fred@bridgebase.com
and I will arrange to get you the new version.

Please no requests for the next version from people who
have not experienced the bug in question! Hopefully 3.6.6
will be released soon.

A positive step Fred -

I have no pausing on 16 and 24 bit color modes and it working nearly seamlessly so far. However I have learned from Uday that he is getting a pause clicking on the TABLE feature. At least it's a step in the right direction. Ran the testing under usual working conditions that I use without trap error, such.

I have had the problem (?) reported by pinokiss since wide window mode was introduced.

I thought it was a purposeful change to the interface because, at the same time, I noticed the behaviour of the drop-down list in the chat dialog had changed (though it may have been changed for a long time). The drop-down list now only lists members who have been sent (or who have sent you) a private chat.

The latter is a feature I like very much (hundreds of entries, never mind thousands, are too many).
