System natural 4°Major
1-2
2- ??

What bid patner?
Answered deducted but I have come some doubts. I bid always 2 but perhaps there it is something of better or of different fact with only 1, from the usual 2 bids that taught me?

Hi there

I suspect that most players would recommend starting some kind of forcing major suit raise rather than bidding 2.

Many people use 1H - 2NT to show a game foricng hand with 4+ card heart support. (Others use 1H - 2 to use the same hand type).

If I were playing a fairly natural system, I'd prefer to start by establishing an GF and setting trump rather than showing a 4 card club suit.

With this said and done, your 2 bid stuck gold. You now know that you have a double fit with partner. You have a 9+ card Heart fit and an 8+ card Diamond fit. Moreover, you have a very real chance of making an intelligent choice to play in a 4-4 minor suit fit rather than a 5-4 major suit fit. You have clubs nicely controlled and your shortage isn't opposite one of partner's real suits.

Give partner

Axx
Axxxx
AKxx
x

and you have a nice comfortable grand

I might be boring and simply bid Keycard in Diamonds... If partner has a third club the opponents have 10+ card spade fit and haven't found a bid...

Hi Richard. I don't see any possible advantage to playing a 4-4 diamond fit over a 5-4 heart fit on this hand. Agree with making some heart raise right away though.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Hi Josh

You're probably right. I'm having a lot of trouble constructing a hand where the 4-4 Diamond fit will play better than the 5-4 Heart fit. It matters somethimes, but this doesn't appear to be one of those cases.

Potentially, the bid advantage of the 2 bid is that you can (now) use keycard to place the Diamond King without having to rely on your cue bidding prowess...

2 is probably not forcing in a 4-card major system. Then 3. Maybe that is not forcing either. Then 2. Or maybe 3 which should be a splinter for diamonds.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

1-4 is a fairly weak pre-emptive raise.

1-[response]
[rebid]-4 is a GF with support and 10-14 pts or so.

1-[response]
[rebid]-[4th suit]
[some bid]-4 is usually a GF with support and 15-18 pts.
The difference between theory and practice is that in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.
