I have a wondering, it may be old as Metusalem . That if gamebonus was just alittle higher on each level wouldnt that support the older generation of bridgeplayers so to say, that was maybe teached not to overbid so much, it is more complex than that(sigh). Would that maybe beeing a thinking against the idea of the game???? PS. Excuse if I have no posters to some possible replies.

Perhaps if people played matchpoints they would not overbid as much?

Sometimes I wonder why so many games on the internet are imps scoring.

Those like me who prefer matchpoints have a hard time finding games, tables, and when we open our own matchpoints table, it is hard to get opposition.

try looking at the main room and count the number of matchpoints table-- you will see perhaps 20 out of 1,000.

The Main room situation probably has to more to do with the default setting for a Table on BBO, than with the preferences people have. Personally, I prefer IMPS, so I think that default choice is right B)

And I don't understand your point about IMP players overbidding... If the scoring is different, the tactics would be different too. You cannot try to apply MP strategy of bidding to other scoring or IMP to others. For instance, in MP you will frequently double opps in a partscore. If you do the same in IMPs, that would be probably be called overbidding... In IMPS you bid a vul game if it has atleast 35% chance of making. In MPs if you do that, it would be called overbidding.

Your points are correct, however, one will observe that many oplayers play imps tactics in a matchpoints game.

And as for default settings- that does not have much to do with it.

It is very common for our opposition to :

a- request to change scoring to imps
b- offer to open another table and even reserve seats for us
c- point oit that "therre is something wrong " - then state that it was the scoring

lol

You don't have to be stuck in Main Bridge club if you are having trouble finding Matchpoint games. There are a lot of Free Matchpoint tourneys which go on (atleast I have seen quite a few).

If you need the to see hand records, it is inconvenient, but after the tourney you can look at the hand records and travellers using http://online.bridgebase.com/myhands
