Interesting hand from yesterday's club game.

Scoring: MP

RHO opens 3 and you overcall 3 (if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand).

LHO leads the Q and shifts to a small . You stick in the 9 which fetches the King (I mentioned this was a club game right?). You cash one heart, unblock the and go to the board with a trump. RHO plays a club.

Now what?

MPs, remember...

Righty has already shown up with AK of clubs and K of diamonds. Righty also already has a hand where I would have opened at the one level. Regardless, he won't have the spade K. So I will just lay down the A. Then cross to dummy in trumps. Cash my diamond pitching a club and then I should have a full count on righty's shape. He'll either be 3=1=2=7 or 2=1=3=7. If he's 3=1=2=7, then it will be obvious to duck the next spade. If he's 2=1=3=7, then I hope he has JT tight in spades as I cannot avoid losing 2 spade tricks if lefty has KJx or KTx, since he has a trump exit or diamond exit if I've drawn his trumps.

If Phil is posting this probably LHO has KJTx of spades and RHO is 1147. I can't see a way to combine all chances though, and I would never really play for that layout.

btw matt your line loses to the likely scenario that LHO is 3451.. you are going to get tapped out if you play your diamond and dummies 3rd trump and not get your long spade. You need to just play a spade to the 9 first to keep control.

Yes, I'm posting this because I took the newspaper line and wanted to show off how great I was.
