What is this, downgrading central lately? We are in third seat, good spot cards, good hand for declaring. Since when was it winning bridge to avoid opening 1NT as often as possible?

I'm not a rubber bridge player any more, but it feels like getting 40 towards rubber is good news, and opps need to be cautious about competing at real money when going off.

Be interested to hear if there is a different rubber perspective.

IMO 1N = 10, 1C = 7
(Assuming that 1N shows 15-17 flat). The intermediates compensate for the dull shape.
Partner may have a suitable 9-11 count, so the risk of missing game in a confused auction outweighs the danger of a penalty double.

1♣, assuming it's partner's duty to bid aggresively at rubber, not mine. If we both add one HCP because of conditions of contest we end up in too many nonsense games I think.

At rubber bridge, vulnerable, in 3rd seat, with opponents who play penalty doubles, I would be wary of opening 1N with ♠Q43 ♥K65 ♦KQ4 ♣KQ53 :) but obviously, Murgatroid is made of sterner stuff B)

How do I evaluate this hand?

I count 3 points for each king, and 2 points for each queen.

No. If a weak NT is 12-14, and I hold 15, I don't open a weak NT.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

Most rubber Bridge players advocate a strong or variable notrump. Even if you agreed to play weak notrump in other contexts, you would be loth to employ it at rubber Bridge, vulnerable in third seat. IMO You should consider downgrading this 15 count to a weak notrump, if partner insisted that you play it throughout.
