Pard's dealer? Then 1♥.

If pard was 2nd chair, I'd still bid 1♥, but it's a lot closer. Once it gets by LHO, our stealing capability is severely impaired since we have a passed dealer and a RHO that couldn't take a call over 1♣.

Agree that we are not stealing if we bid over a 2nd seat opener but I think that the number of times we have game is too big to be passing a 1C opener with this hand. I mean DRG just gave me a hand like AKxx Axx A AKTxx where everyone opened 1C (I agree), but you really can't pass a hand like this imo.

The 4th club allow for a 1H response but i have no problem with pass.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.

I am a bidder but I usually play a weak NT system.

I have am not sure what is right in a strong NT system but I would probably still bid.

You don't think it's much easier to bid in balancing seat than over 1C p 1H ? Specifically with a weak NT hand type, or with a hand that has heart length?

I know I do, but that's not the general idea.
My experience after playing transfers over 1♣ for 4 years is that our side is much more able to utilize the extra room available than opps. This hand isn't a comercial for the idea though. :)

It is undoubtedly true that playing an unusual gadget often gives you an advantage because the opponents are not prepared, especially in a weak field. Does that mean that we should frown at every gadget that is not played by a substantial amount of people?

Transfers are easy enough to defend against that I'd expect good opponents to profit from them. I do agree with Harald though that the constructive merits outweigh this disadvantage.
