I was watching this hand on BBO yesterday and loved the enterprising defensive bidding by EW.

It's upto you now. Most likely partner doesn't have a spade stopper. If he doesn't have hearts, he must have a fairly big hand. What're your options ? 4nt would be natural presumably showing about what you have. Is there any agreement about whether 4c should be forcing ? What if you had a weaker hand such as xx Kxxx Ax Qxxxx or worse xx Kxxx Axx Qxxx ? If you can't bid 3nt and can't leave it in, you must have a way out, so you need 4c to try to get out unscathed while you still can. Anyone in favor of passing 3s X ?

Passing is far too unilateral for me.

Partner said he wanted to compete at this level that shows a reasonable hand since I didn't need much to double 1♠.

I have an undisclosed club fit.

I don't have unexpected spade tricks.

4♠ from me to show a good hand. I will probably bid 6♣ over the expected 5♣.

x Axx Kxxx AKQxx looks normal for the double and grand is nearly 50%, so I'd cue 4♠.

My point is that if we give partner a normal hand where grand would have decent play then we should at least attempt to bid a small slam.

I've had teammates such that while one was wondering what game to bid, the other was already trying to sort out whether it was a case for 6 or 7... lol.
