So, this weekend was the final match of the Flight B GNTs.

Our team got destroyed. (I actually asked if we could withdraw after the third quarter)
On the bright side, I think that our defensive methods over the mini NT and the Romex 1m opening worked quite well. (I do have the unfortunate feeling that partner might have forgotten methods on a couple occasions). On the down side, I forgot to alert a bid and thought we were playing NAMYATS when we were. Luckily, the "forget" didn't cause any problems for the other team and even the NAMYATS glitch didn't cost all that much...

District 25 had recorders watching the whole match. The recorders will provide a complete write up this week. When this occurs, I'll start posting some hands.

Short term, here's a question for the peanut gallery...

The auction starts

(1) - X - (3) - 4
(P) - 4N

What do you think 4NT means?

I think 4NT is natural.

I think it is RKC for clubs.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Well done getting to the finals

I'm not sure what the best use of 4NT is, but imagine that 98% of players in unexperienced partnerships in Flight B GNT events will think it is RKC for clubs.

Recorders watching the match? I've never heard of such a thing. A recorder's job isn't to 'record' the record of the play, its to make a record of indiscretions that are reported.

Is this what you meant Richard?

Sorry about the final.

No, he meant recording the play for later reporting.

RKCB.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

Sorry, I should have been more clear:

District 25 likes to have someone present to record the hands, auctions, opening leads, and the like.

This occurs in all GNT finals (assuming that the teams acquiesce)...

I don't think that is has anything to do with concerns about ethical issues. Rather, the District likes to write things up for the web page. I'll post a link when the article become available.

Thanks for the condolences, but it was a pleasant match. I left feeling that the other team deserved their trip to Vegas... Can't ask for more than that

Absent agreement, I would assume keycard, even tho I am usually a believer in the adage that 'if it can be natural, it is natural'.

I choose keycard because it seems to me unlikely that 4N is the last makeable spot here.. if we can make 4N we rate to make 5 most (tho not all) of the time. After all, the takeout doubler has at least 19 hcp and partner made a constructive 4 call opposite an assumed 1=4=4=4 12 count.

And while I love bidding slams without resorting to keycard, this may be a sequence in which there is no real choice..... AQx KQJx Ax Kxxx. Of course, we hope we are playing 1430 so we can stop in 5 opposite x xxx KQx QJxxxx.

I believe this is an individual initiative taken by the District 25 webmaster who also writes tournament recaps for the webpage. He may enlist the help of others in recording matches and/or relaying stories. I would be very surprised if District 25 has done anything to make this happen (other than making a wise decision when it came to selecting a webmaster).

I'm going to start posting full hands. Over the weekend I should be able to provide a link to the write up provided by the district web master.

On this hand we produced the following auction (South was Dealer)

(P) - P - (1) - X
(3) - 4 - (P) - 4N
All pass

Needless to say, 6 is a fine contract.

I was West and decided to pass over partner's 4NT. I'm still wondering whether Pass, 5, or 6 is the right call.

I might bid 6 rather than 4NT with your partner's hand. You have competed with 4 so you will have something.

Any reason why you didn't preempt with the West hand?

If youre 2nd seat, I understand, but I hope you don't start babbling about mixed strategy Richard
