Here is a defensive problem I had today...
p, p, 1H on right, you Xed (lol I know), 4H on left, all pass. You lead DQ, partner follows with the 2 which you know she would do with any hand that had the ace of clubs. Trick 2 is the heart jack floated to your king. Your play?

I hope we can develop a spade trick, since I'm leading one right now. Yes, this could easily be wrong, but I'm going to play partner for the 1-point card, not the 2-point card.
Edit: I feel less good about this now. MPs, right?
Edit 2: I think cashing out is better now. Small club for me.

hmm I dunno.. If declarer has 5H and 4D he may have played a heart to his Q? So I might place him with 5H and <= 3D's. If he has 2 or less spades it probably won't matter what we do, so it is when he has 3 or 4spades that we have to worry about. If he has 3S+2C with no SJ I want to attack spades. If he has the SJ I can do anything but a spade, unless if declarer has SJ98 and decides to double hook which is probably unlikely. I think i'm going to go for a spade which will only lose if he has 3532 specifically.
But all of this, I am assuming declarer has the CQ even though he did open 1H in 3rd seat..

I'll just continue hearts.
It seems like a spade play helps only when declarer has ♠xxx and partner ♠Jxx. On the other hand, a spade play will certainly cost if declarer has ♠Jxx, and can also cost if declarer has ♠Jx (say Jx AQxxx Axxx xx and declarer gets a club discard).
There's not likely to be that much of a rush to play clubs -- couldn't declarer have Axx for example and partner Q9x? In this case a club switch could give declarer two club tricks instead of one...

A spade is way too dangerous here. Why should we risk giving up 12 tricks if declarer is 2=5=4=2 or 3=5=3=2? I assuming its the Open Pairs and you are qualifying?
Assuming there aren't any spade spots on the board, I'll just return a heart.
I'd shift to a spade in the final.

I continued hearts, RHO was 4522 with the SJ and Qx of clubs but no 9 of clubs so a spade blows a trick. Agree that a spade is too big.
