The second one is definitely a 3H bid. The first one is close and could go either way, but I would just bid 3 (I would expect partner to try for slam a little more aggressively than I'd like when I have this hand).

Is the poll correct? Why would you opt for 3 on the 1st and 4 on the 2nd with the weaker spade holding.

I think it's that close, and with the stronger spade holding, the 1st hand is worth an upgrade.

p.s. The confusion is not just a typo though. I was totally confused about the meanings of 3H and 4H here. Less confused now though. :)

We don't pre-empt over a pre-empt: bidding 4H is a stronger call than bidding 3H. Bidding 4H says that you expect to make it, and partner can bid on with a suitable hand.
