I entered a SKY $1 tourney and I forgot to check the prize money.
Turns out they have $5 prize money for 16 entries, that is over 50% rake.
Even poker sites only take 5% rake.
All the other tourneys also seem to have too much rake, i know now why only so few people play tourneys at bbo.

tourney rake 65% rake is ludicrous !!!!

If you want to play poker, go to a poker site. If you want a lower "rake" play in the money tournaments, or play in the "money bridge" head-to-head matches. The "rake" there in these are much lower. My understanding is that the rake for "money bridge" is 5% (see notes on money bridge). The rake for the money tournaments is, i believre, 20%.
What you don;t seem to realize that in the sponsored tournament you played in, there are several hands in the money pie. First, there is the BBO itself. These tournaments are one of the major ways they earn the money to host the gaming site. They take a fixed percentage of the money collected (this percentage also helps offset the cost of accepting credit cards, and charge-backs from the credit card companies, etc). The tournaments also have to pay for the director whose time is needed to set up the tournament, distribute the winnings, help find substitutes, adjucate violations of the laws, to investigate cheating and rude behavior, etc. In online poker games and in the money stakes and money bridge tournaments, there is no human doing any job like that. To be quite frank with you, the money back to winners in this case is quite reasonable. Besides, this isn't suppose to be gambling, but rather a reward for doing well.
