I would have bid 6S. I still bid 6S even now after having seen partner's hand. Hopefully this will teach him to bid properly and not like a pusillanimous cretin.

I actually don't blame him that much. The lack of a way to bid strong twos in US systems drives people to "fabricate" suits.
But yeah, I agree his "solution" may rank high on imagination but scores zero on practicality. (What's wrong with a mild underbid of 3♣?? The suit isn't even that great.)

If I decide to open 1♣, I believe 3♣ certainly is the best rebid. That's all.
