pass because nothing else is better?
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

PArtner made a free bid in hearts, and we have all the spade honors and a great holding in spades. If we are not going to move forward towards slam, at least we can double and hope partner leads a trump. And if partner takes the double as takeout, well we have spades and clubs, so that will not be bad either. So as much as I am not wildly enthusiastic about it, I will double. That simply HAS to be better than pass (unless pass is forcing for some bizarre reason in your methods). Quite simply, pass would never occur to me, because it is very unlikely they can make 5♦.

I'll double, don't see what else I can do. I might take a chance on partner having one ace for slam, but not two.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I'll double. It's unrealistic to try to find 6C now. Partner could have 4 spades, but he chose 1H instead of x, which reduces that probability by a fair bit. I'm not going to be shocked if this makes, but I don't think I can pass.
I agree that playing a forcing pass here is pretty bizarre.

This is IMPs, with vulnerable opponents. I think that 5♦ might make, go down 1 or go down quite a few.
To simplify the problem, let's look at the cases where 5♦ makes or goes down 1.
At the other table they play 5♦, undoubled and you double here. 5♦ makes and you loose 750-600 = 150. This converts to -4 IMPs. Now, the same situation, but 5♦ goes down 1. In this case you win 200-100 = 100, converting to 3 IMPs.
In other words, not counting overtricks or undertricks the pass - Dbl decision is about 50-50. However, it is really unlikely that there will be overtricks. Even if they do have a singleton spade, partner might still have a trick somewhere. On the other hand, it is perfectly possible to get more undertricks. (E.g. if partner is short in spades.) In that case you have turned a club part score for your side into a game swing by doubling 5♦.

I want my opponents to leave my table with a smile on their face and without matchpoints on their score card - in that order.

Hi,
Assuming I can trust my opponents,
I bid 6C, may make, or may be a cheap
sacrifice, at any different vulnerability,
I would double.
I have seen ?X= before, and will so again.
With kind regards
Marlowe

My first feeling was to bid 6♣, so I do that. I admit dbl is probably better, though.
