1x - pass - pass - 2x
not as Michaels, but as an unknown two-suiter. He doesn't talk about the follow-ups much either.
I have never heard of anyone else advocating this. Does anyone play it?

That's the only place I've seen it too. I just assumed the book was old fashioned, it's not the only place it shows itself to be out of date after all.

To me it makes a lot of sense and is superior, but I don't play it with anyone.

The reason most likely is, that you dont
have the unusal 2 NT available.
And if you dont want to double with strong
2-suiters, which is certainly not the best thing
to do, you need the cue bid to be an arbitary
2-suiter.
As far as I know, this meaning of the cue bid
is also part of the french standard system.

Hi,
another option would be to bid up the line.
As long as the cue is game forcing, this
should work reasonable well.
Another option is to look for continuations
after a 2NT overcall, which shows an
arbitary 2-suiter, maybe you have more
luck.

(1D)---p-----(p)------???
2D= unknown 2 suiter
3D= ask for a stop (long clubs)
4C= C+M
4D= both M
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."
