Scoring: IMP

Playing BWS, you open 1, and partner responds 1.

I've already taken a poll of this problem and have received all sorts of wild answers from players who are very good all the way up to truly world class, so whatever you're thinking, it can't be completely crazy.

3D, which is the book bid.

Maybe 3D shows also 3 card support in BWS,
i dont know.
You can make the hand stronger, make the Ace
of clubs the Ace of hearts, and I still bid 3D,
although now it will be more likely, that we miss
4H.

hmmm 3d wtp?

Granted as discussed often in the forums these jump rebids of a minor can be wide ranging but for once I got my down the middle bid. :(

3D looks to be bang on to me. If we jump shift on S we may created a problem, if we rebid 3NT we are not quite right as the D suit is not running. 3D shows about 7 playing tricks which is exactly what we have.

I'm a simple man so I choose a simple 3D.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

It is these type of hands that lead to the creation of conventions like Cole, in which a 2 rebid is artificial. One of the hands to be shown is a strong hand with 3 card support and long diamonds (another is a strong hand support with 3 card support without long diamonds).

I chose 3 on this hand, but I can understand various other choices, such as 2, 3, or 2NT.

While there are certainly hands of this strength that make a 3D rebid problematic, this isn't one of them.

3 shows the hand, it simply will work badly opposite certain hands partner can have. But everything else is a brutally misdescriptive psych from which you often can't recover.....

3D

I never feel happy with this bid in natural systems, so I'm quite sympathetic to anyone with a better idea.

Am torn between 3 as this is quite strong and your 2NT, but I'm allow to hold a max so I somewhat prefer 3 with this distribution.

I will often bid 1S with this hand type but with such strong diamonds I would opt for 3D

3 would win any bidding contest. Move some of the diamond honors into the majors and this becomes a much tougher problem.

3. I've had bad experience with all options, including the one I chose.

With regular partners playing a NATURAL system I prefer to play that:

1 - 1M - 2 is either a natural reverse or any 18 - 19 balanced, thus freeing 2NT.

1m - 1M - 2NT is 6-card m, invite or GF (if GF it can have 3M).
1m - 1M - 3m is invitational 6m 3M.

I like Gerben's structure. This is a very common problem. I voted 2N, assuming that p responds more soundly than most people on this forum so that I can afford to GF this one.
